ISPHAGHULA-GIT drug

PHARMACOLOGY OF ISPHAGHULA

MECHANISM OF ACTION
Water soluble isphaghula mainly consists of indigestible polysaccharides. Taken with plenty of water of fluids, leads to increase of the fecal mass, the stool becomes softer and peristalsis is stimulated. This eventually also causes a reduction of intraluminal rectosigmoid pressure. Isphaghula fibers bind bile acids which causes increased bile acid secretion.

USES
1. Constipation
2. As a dietary fiber
3. Mild diarrhea

SIDE EFFECTS
1. Nose or eye irritation
2. Feeling short of breath
3. Itchy skin
4. Flatulence
5. Bloating
6. Tummy discomfort.
