Ketoprofen

Introduction
Ketoprofen, a propionic acid derivative, is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAIA) with analgesic and antipyretic properties.

Pharmacological Action
This compound belongs to the class of organic compounds known as benzophenones. These are organic compounds containing a ketone attached to two phenyl groups. Ketoprofen , (RS)2-(3-benzoylphenyl)- propionic acid (chemical formula C 16 H14 O3 ) is one of the propionic acid class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic effects. It acts by inhibiting the body's production of prostaglandin.

Uses
For symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, primary dysmenorrhea and mild to moderate pain associated with musculotendinous trauma (sprains and strains), postoperative (including dental surgery) or postpartum.
Ketoprofen can also be used for treatment of some pain, especially nerve pain such as
sciatica , postherpetic neuralgia and referred pain for radiculopathy.

Drug- Drug Interaction
Abciximab + Ketoprofen = Ketoprofen may increase the anticoagulant activities of Abciximab.
Acenocoumarol + Ketoprofen = Ketoprofen may increase the anticoagulant activities of Acenocoumarol.
Aliskiren + Ketoprofen = Ketoprofen may decrease the antihypertensive activities of Aliskiren.
Alteplase + Ketoprofen = Ketoprofen may increase the anticoagulant activities of Alteplase.
