NEFOPAM-NSAIDS and antipyretic-analgesics

INTRODUCTION
Nefopam is a non-opioid analgesic and though it acts centrally, its mechanism is not defined. It also exerts antimuscarinic and sympathomimetic actions.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
Inhibition of serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline reuptake is thought to be involved in its analgesic effects, and there may be other modes of action such as through histamine H3 receptors and glutamate. Nefopam has been found to act as a voltage-gated sodium channel blocker, and this may in part or fully mediate its antinociceptive effects.

USES
It is used as analgesic.
It is also used to combat by sever hiccups.

SIDE EFFECT
Nervousness
Dry mouth
Urinary retention
Sweating
Hallucination

DRUG DRUG INTERACTIONS
Nefopam + Prazosin = increases risk of urinary retention.
Nefopam + Carbamazepine = increase risk of seizure.
